What does hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis is simply a focused state of attention and in this context your attention is focused inwards. As we enter this state of focused attention our brainwaves alter in their frequency and we gain access to the subconscious and unconscious part of our minds. In this state we are able to create positive, sustained and lasting changes in our thoughts, feelings and habits or behaviours.

Another huge benefit of working in this way is that it induces a deep state of relaxation which has a very positive impact on our body, nervous system and general wellbeing.

The best way to describe the feeling of hypnosis it that it is a bit like a guided meditation, you will feel very relaxed and you will be aware of what I am saying. The most important thing to understand is that you are in charge of how deeply you go in the hypnosis, your conscious and subconscious mind work together with me to give you the appropriate and healing experience that you need at that time. It is not a passive experience that is done to you, it is very much a collaborative process.

Everyone will experience hypnosis in their own unique way and your experience of it will vary from week to week depending on how you are feeling that day and what the issue is that we are working.

I work with clients using varying depths of hypnotic trance, some sessions we wont use any ‘formal’ hypnosis at all, each client has a bespoke treatment plan tailored specifically to their individual issue, goals and requirements.

Where do the sessions take place ?

I currently offer in person and online sessions from my home based practice, there is on street parking available and the nearest train station is a 7 minute walk away.

What do the sessions involve?

In the consultation session we will discuss what has brought you to therapy, what your therapeutic goals are and how we may be able to work together to help you to achieve them. Following the consultation session, I will create an individual treatment plan tailored specifically to you and your desired outcome. I will regularly discuss with you the progress we are making and assess and amend the treatment plan as required.

There is no obligation following the consultation session if you feel for any reason that we are not best fit to work together and if for any reason I feel I may not be the best therapist to help you I will refer you to a colleague with the relevant qualifications.

Our subsequent sessions will involve various hypnotherapy and psychotherapy techniques, we will work towards reaching your therapeutic goals.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes BUT there are some rare exceptions where confidentiality doesn’t apply and these are explained clearly in the new client contract information that I send out if we are to work together.

I adhere to the ethical framework of UKCP. This requires me to take part in regular supervision with an accredited supervisor. To ensure I am working safely and providing you with the best possible care, I may discuss your case with my supervisor.

Why are there no testimonials on your website?

I do not offer testimonials on this website as they may easily be falsified. If I were to include testimonials, in order to comply with advertising requirements, those testimonials would need to be possible to verify and this would break the strict client confidentiality that I uphold & would be a breach of the NCHP and the UKCP Code of Ethical Conduct.
