Help With Trauma

Gentle, Trauma-Informed Therapy to Support Healing and Recovery

Experiencing trauma can affect how you think, feel, and move through the world. You may feel anxious, on edge, emotionally numb, easily overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself or others. Perhaps certain memories feel intrusive, or you notice physical reactions that seem out of proportion to the present moment.

If this sounds familiar, please know: your responses make sense in the context of what you’ve experienced. The Symptoms are a sign that your nervous system has been trying to protect you.

With the right support, healing is possible.

What Is Trauma?

Trauma occurs when an experience feels overwhelming, frightening, or unsafe, and your system is unable to fully process it at the time. This can impact both the mind and body.

There are different types of trauma, including:

Single-Incident Trauma

This may relate to a one-off event such as:

  • An accident or injury

  • A medical emergency

  • A sudden loss

  • A frightening or life-threatening situation

Even a single event can leave lasting emotional or physiological effects, particularly if it felt overwhelming or out of control.

Complex Trauma

Complex trauma usually develops from repeated or prolonged experiences of distress, particularly in relationships. This might include:

  • Ongoing emotional neglect or abuse

  • Childhood adversity

  • Long-term stress in unsafe environments

  • Repeated boundary violations

Complex trauma can affect self-esteem, relationships, emotional regulation, and your overall sense of safety in the world.

Both forms of trauma can contribute to symptoms such as:

  • Chronic anxiety or panic attacks

  • Depression or emotional numbness

  • Hypervigilance or feeling constantly on edge

  • Depersonalisation or dissociation

  • Intrusive thoughts or flashbacks

  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe

These are adaptive survival responses and can be overcome and resolved.

How Trauma Affects the Mind and Body

Trauma is not only stored as a memory — it is often held in the nervous system and body. You may notice physical tension, digestive issues, fatigue, or sudden emotional reactions that feel difficult to control.

When trauma remains unprocessed, the nervous system can become dysregulated — swinging between anxiety and overwhelm, or numbness and shutdown.

Therapy helps you gently and safely process these experiences so that your system no longer has to stay in survival mode.

A Trauma-Informed, Holistic Approach to Healing

My approach to working with trauma is integrative, compassionate, and paced carefully according to your needs. Therapy is never about forcing you to relive painful experiences. Instead, we focus on building safety, stability, and resilience first.

Our work may include:

  • Trauma-informed psychotherapy

  • Eye Movement Re-consolidation (EMR)

  • Hypnotherapy and subconscious work

  • Parts Work

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) where appropriate

  • Mindfulness and breath-based regulation techniques

  • Nervous system stabilisation and grounding practices

This holistic therapy approach recognises the connection between mind and body, helping you process experiences safely while strengthening your internal resources.

What Healing From Trauma Can Look Like

Healing does not mean forgetting what happened. It means:

  • Feeling less triggered by reminders of the past

  • Experiencing fewer anxiety or panic symptoms

  • Developing greater emotional regulation

  • Feeling more present and grounded

  • Rebuilding trust — in yourself and others

  • Moving forward with greater clarity and self-compassion

Trauma therapy is a gradual process, but many clients begin to feel a sense of relief simply by being understood and supported.
