What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of altered awareness and enhanced relaxation in which the therapist and the client work together to help the client access ideas, memories and mindsets that have been stored by the subconscious. The unconscious part of your mind can allow inner resources to be utilised, whilst also becoming more open to suggestion whilst in the Trance state, this brings about more effective change than is possible working in conscious awareness alone.

Have you ever ‘zoned’ out in front of the TV or daydreamed or got to your destination not remembering the full journey? Then you have experienced a level of trance….

Hypnosis allows you to enter a deeply relaxed state, in which mental stress and bodily tension are reduced, whilst increasing focused attention internally. Utilising this state can help to identify and change negative thoughts, beliefs or mindsets that may be holding you back or affecting your mental health.

What is the difference between a hypnotist and a hypnotherapist?

There are a number of significant differences between a Hypnotist and a Hypnotherapist and it is important to understand these differences in order to find the right therapist for you.

Whilst a Hypnotist may be able to help with basic issues such as relaxation, a Hypnotherapist has been trained to deliver additional, advanced therapeutic methods in order to address a wider range of more complex issues.

What is Hypno-Psychotherapy?

Hypno-Psychotherapy differs from other forms of Psychotherapy and talking therapies in that the therapist is qualified to use hypnosis as a method of facilitating change. Psychotherapeutic techniques can be explored whilst using hypnosis or without depending on each clients individual requirements.

Whilst being capable of effecting change, Hypno-Psychotherapy focuses on the resources and individual qualities of each unique individual. There is no standard ‘one size fits all’ approach; the resources and personality of the individual are key to the recovery and progression towards mental well-ness and each client experiences a bespoke treatment plan tailored specifically to their needs.

Equality between the therapist and client is also a fundamental part of my approach, we will work together to enable you to explore the issues you are experiencing in a safe and supportive environment; my role, as such is that of guide rather than teacher.
